Wanna know about wine tasting?

Here is something of your interest!!! I mean it all about wine tasting. I know you are keen to know about it. Here are some easy steps which will help you to make an informed judgment on the quality of a wine. Step 1: To differentiate between young and old wine tilt the glass at an angle and look at the rim of the wine against a white background. If it’s purple, its young wine and if it appears red, mahogany or even brown the wine is old. The wine should be clean and bright. Step 2: Pour a small amount of wine and swirl it around. Take a sniff, the wine should smell pleasant and clean with fruit and without any odd odors. Step 3: Take a mouthful but not too much as you would need to swish the wine around your mouth in order for all parts of the mouth to taste the wine. After swallowing you should be able to detect if the wine is sweet or dry and has any acidity. Too much acidity will make the wine tart and too little flabby. Tannin will make the mouth feel dry. Weight is the general feel of the wine in the mouth. Fruit is the overall taste of fruit in the mouth, the better the wine, the greater level of fruit. Length is how long the flavor lingers in the mouth, the longer the better.

European Government may end excise duty on alcohol imports

European government is planning to end duty on alcohol imports, which may allow UK consumer to purchase duty-free alcohol and cigarettes on the internet. It will be decided this month by the European court whether goods from European countries can be delivered to British homes free of UK duty. This could mean a big drop in tax income for the Treasury, which could lead the court to reject the idea. Francis Jacob, the court’s advocate general, gave his suggestions to the court last December and the court will give its verdict on November 23. If the advice is granted by the court, it will become convenient for shoppers of alcohol and cigarettes to buy it from the mainland Europe, where there are often lower alcohol and tobacco duty rates. Treasury spokesman said:It is very important to remember that the advocate general’s opinion is just that – an opinion. The court does not always follow the Advocate-General’s opinion. The government earns about £15bn a year from excise on alcohol and cigarettes. The European judgment will come six months after the European commission’s decision to end legal proceedings against Britain to jam up shoppers bringing in excessive quantities of alcohol and tobacco. Jeremy Beadles, chief executive of the Wine and Spirits Trade Association said: I think the likelihood is that the consumer will benefit and the Treasury will be hit hard by it. Retailers will have to adapt their businesses, recognizing they have much higher tax rates here than on the Continent. Read More

Are you a wine lover just like me!! Than you really need to take a look on the Clef du Vin which speeds up wine’s aging by one year per second. Want to know how? The Clef du Vin reassures you in your selection and purchase of wines. Clef du Vin speeds up the aromatic development of the wine’s flavors and softens its structure. You could name it ‘wine key,’ a dipstick-style device made with an undisclosed metal alloy, and now being stocked at some Kroger supermarkets. If after several dips (or a continuous dip of a few seconds), the wine remains pleasant or improves, you can buy with confidence, it will age well. If the wine worsens after one or two seconds of contact, the wine has little or no ageing potential, and should be drunk within a year or two. And Clef du Vin is available in various sizes to fit glasses or bottles, ranging from $100 to $300. Read

Online Booze and Alcohol Purchases prohibited in EUcountries

The European Court of Justice has banned the online purchasing of alcohol. Now Europeans won’t be able to order online alcoholic drinks over the Internet from the other countries in EU in order to avoid taxes in their own countries. The recent interpretation of EU policies states that in order to benefit from cheaper taxes elsewhere, consumers have to travel to the EU country for inquiry and pick up their purchases. The UK, Sweden and Denmark have the highest taxes on booze and alcohol. UK Treasury earns about £16 billion a year in revenue from duty on cigarettes and alcohol and this decision brings immense relief to UK treasury. The UK Treasury spokesman said: The government is pleased that the European Court of Justice has accepted the arguments which it and other member states put forward in support of the current arrangements. The government continues to strongly support the right of individuals to benefit from the freedoms of the EU single market but remains determined to crack down on those who seek to abuse those rights. Ken Patel, of the Retailers Against Smuggling, said: We are very relieved. If the proposals had gone ahead, the livelihoods of many of our corner shopkeepers would have been seriously threatened. The European Court of Justice, on a proposal by a group of Dutch wine fans, ruled that “only products acquired and transported personally by private individuals are exempt from excise duty in the member state of importation”. The verdict was even scheduled in Britain and Ireland, where alcohol and cigarette taxes are generally high as compared with the continent. Read
