On High With Wines From Outer Space

With the increase in studies of space, everyone wants to include this topic in their talks or products whether it is the analog with orbits or liquor company claiming to import their products from galaxy. There are few such wines and beers but others are just playing with our fascination. Veteran Fritz Maytag of the legendary Anchor Brewing Company commented about three liquor brands which claimed to give heavenly treat to their liquor. First, RED FLYER, the maker Wimbledon Wine says that the wine is “From the darkest reaches of the universe comes this red wine invasion,” he says that there is an ingredient in the wine called Clone X, which he has ‘smuggled from outer space’. However, according to Maytag this is ‘bullshit’ treat. Second, TOSA SPACE SAKE, which pleased Maytag. Last October, Japan’s Kochi prefecture and 19 local breweries paid the Russian Federal Space Agency to carry some yeast into orbit. Sake containing the astro-yeast hit store shelves in April. Last but not the least is CROP CIRCLE BEER by UK-based Hop Back brewery, made with wheat from Wiltshire (a popular tourist spot for aliens). Maytag says, ‘It tickles my fancy. Chances are it’s good-quality beer, too – Wiltshire’s got a lot of wheat.’ Frankly speaking, I have not yet tasted any of them that’s why I am giving you second hand information of what Maytag says about these drinks. However, the mode that these companies have used to advertise liquor made me curious to taste these brands at least once.

India Outbarrels US in Whisky Market

Mumbai alone consumes more scotch than is produced in Scotland seems like an old refrain. It even sounds deceptive. I mean, how can consumption be more than production. Well, believe it or not! The fake scotch cuppa overfloweth. But what sounds like fiction is the fact that India has succeeded in edging out U.S. to become the largest international whisky market. India’s catapulting to the top of the whisky trade graph has come at a point when European Union (EU) and Scotch Whisky Association have been throwing spanners in the form of non-trade barriers on definitional issues to keep Indian whiskies out of the global market. Under threat from increasing popularity of Indian whiskies in the international market Scotch Whisky Association does not consider Indian whisky as whisky because it is non-matured alcohol mostly made from molasses. It must be mentioned that nine Indian whiskies figured in the New York-based Impact International’s latest list of top 100 global spirits brands. According to reports, Indian whiskies account for 98% of domestic whisky consumption, and are growing 8-10% annually, which makes it one among the fastest growing whisky markets in the world. Read
