Who doesn’t like to indulge in luxury for once? And partying with this bottle of whisky is one of the ways to do that. But, the catch is you can’t buy this. Why? Because it is specially made for Queen Elizabeth II, to honor her visit to Churchill Downs for this year’s Kentucky Derby. Yup! Bad luck there.

Crown Royal has blended this batch of whisky especially for the queen. And for your information, the first ever batch of the Crown Royal Canadian Blended Whisky was made in 1939 for the Queens parents to honor their Grand Tour of Canada. The batch was almost destroyed when a fire broke out at the Seagram’s Waterloo Distillery in Ontario. Only a few barrels were spared and out of them the ones with highest rye content, became the Crown Royal XR Extra Rare Heritage Blend.

Not only this, the glass bottle of the whisky is also specially and etched in 24 karat gold leaf. The decanter is one of a kind and designed by a master glass designer. Hmmm...Would the queen share it with any one at the derby?

All that glitters is gold in your drink, if you are sipping gold liqueur. Gold and alcohol together sounds an unlikely concoction but it is quite an exotic and intriguing blend. How and when did this bizarre combination became a reality remains unclear but it is one thing you will look forward to take pleasure in, once you have known about it. It is indeed enthralling to have gold in your favorite drink in the form of gold leaf or flakes.

One such gold liqueur is the ‘Original Schönbrunner Gold’ that is a French-style cognac. Prepared in accordance with a formula dating back to the days of the Emperor Francis Joseph, this Viennese liqueur consists of a mix of premium distillation of oranges and French cognac. It is further refined to perfection with 23-carat gold leaf.

Sounds like a toast for the kings to enjoy gold in a drink, doesn’t it? Thus, if you are thinking this drink will bore a hole in your pocket, then you are mistaken as this indulgence is reasonably priced. Yes, you read it correctly; a bottle of this gold liqueur will cost you about 20 euros. Now, if you are visioning that you could become wealthy by extracting gold from your drink, then you are dreaming in vain. The gold leaf in your drink barely weighs anything and so will hardly fetch you any bucks.

Thus, just relax, enjoy this gold liqueur and let the ‘gold-rush’ in your drink bring you pleasure if not money.

No matter which wine you are serving in the cool-looking Ralph Lauren leather with crystal jobby that is available at Uncrate but it is for sure that the mere appearance of the decanter will appeal to others.

This swank decanter, with its hand blown lead crystal and saddle leather trim, is finished with silver-plated hardware with stamped RL logos. It also sports an oversized stopper and wide rectangular barrel for your convenience.

The decanting process would probably trickle down the walls of the decanter, imparting full flavor of the wine served.

However it is priced little high at $400 but it is for sure that this buy would pass off the cheapest whiskeys in the world in it, because people will see it coming out of a fancy decanter and just assume that’s how it should taste.

For centuries, wines have been one of the most well admired alcoholic beverages. The richness and variety of wines in terms of flavor, color, aroma and use has captivated the interests of many wine buffs around the world. The method of preparation of wine, the age of the wine, the cellars where they are stored are all of significance to a wine connoisseur. If you think these are all conventional topics without much room for new inventive ideas, then think again.

French wine aficionados have found a new alternative to the conventional cellars that will add to the quality of the wines. Unimaginable it may sound, these cellars are not in some secret rooms in a chateau or in some life-size closet but it is the seabed that will serve as an ideal cellar.

This observation comes after two crates consisting of 600 bottles (300 each of red and white wine) of Anjou Village de Brissac-Quince wines that were lowered to the floor of the Saint-Malo bay by Yannick Heude, a wine-shop owner last year were pulled out. The verdict on the quality of wines was given by six oenophiles who confirmed that indeed the underwater ageing had slowly matured the wine to a better product than that obtained by the same process on land.

The wine bottles had been lowered to almost a depth of 30 feet and a water current of 9mph would move and turn the bottles twice a day Heude says,

“There’s no ultraviolet sunlight and the average temperature is stable at between 9C and 12C below 10 metres. What we didn’t know was the effect of the tides and the currents. They amplify the wine’s evolution, which seems younger when it comes out of the sea, but with smoother and rounder flavours and smells.”

The seabed not only provides ideal conditions of humidity and temperature but also proves an inexpensive alternative to the conventional cellars. Owing the success of this one of a kind attempt, Heude has already lowered 600 bottles to the bottom of the bay and plans to do so now every year.

Do you suffer from tooth problems like tooth decay, gum disease or have a sore throat?

Do not worry, as I have a solution for it. Just get into the habit of taking a glass of wine everyday to keep these problems at a bay.

As a new study that was conducted by Italian scientists has revealed that a regular glass of wine helps in preventing tooth decay, gum disease and in healing sore throats. It is both the red and the white wine varieties that have powerful germ-killing ingredients.

Previous findings reveal that moderate consumption of red wine reduces the risk of disease like heart, cancer and Alzheimer’s.

As a matter of fact, since ancient time wine’s antibacterial qualities are well known, however, there have been very little investigations in the modern time.

A team that was led by Professor Gazzani’s conducted the study. They used bottles of supermarket Valpolicella and Pinot Nero wines for the research, which they poured into bowls containing bacteria.

Professor Gazzani’s said on her research:

Overall, our findings seem to indicate that wine can act as an effective anti-microbial agent against streptococci bacteria and upper respiratory tract infections. We should still drink wine because it tastes good, goes well with food and is a pleasure to share with company. And we should still brush and floss our teeth the accepted way.

The study has been published in the American Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

One of the regions of the world that wine aficionados look forward to for amazing wines is Italy. The people of Italy are engaged in the work of producing wine right from the days of the Etruscans and Greeks long before the Romans established their hold in Italy. With the number of vineyards under cultivation in Italy being over a million, there is no doubt, why Italy accounts for one-fifth of the world’s total wine production.

Italy is divided into twenty wine-producing regions. Each region offers its own characteristic wines that complements the cuisine of that region. In general, Italian wines are dry, acidic and not strong in their in taste and aroma. This is the reason they go well with food than as beverages on their own. In Italy too, the wines fall under two main categories Rosso (red) and Bianco (white). Some of the significant wines in the Rosso category are - Amarone, Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Bardolino, Brunello di Montalcino and in the Bianco category are - Pinot Grigio, Asti, Gavi, Chardonnay, Arneis, Orvieto, Soave, Verdicchio among the many.

In 2005, Click Wine Group brought together some of these noteworthy Italian wines under the label the ‘Bootleg collection’ and that too in great style. The collection includes wines from five different estates from five different wine producing regions of Italy. The wrapping of bottles is done in a manner that reminds you of thigh-high leather and the use of one of a kind sexy zipper that runs along the length of the bottle gives an overall well-heeled look to the wine bottle.

The wines featured in this collection are:
- Pinot Grigio by Tenuta Setten Estate (Veneto)
- Sauvignon Blanc by Trevisiol Estate (Friuli-Venezia Giulia)
- Chianti by Castello Sonnino Estate (Tuscany)
- Southern Red (a blend of 4 varietals) by Terre del Grico Estate (Puglia)
- Grand Tuscan (a blend of 3 varietals) by Villa Trasqua Estate (Tuscany)

All these wine varieties are available in 750ml bottle. A bottle of any of the first four wine varieties mentioned above would cost you $15.99 while a bottle of Grand Tuscan would cost you $19.99.

Hotel heiress Paris Hilton is the new face of Bordeaux wines.

Hilton, 26, will be appearing in an ad campaign including a TV ad, poster and print campaign which will be featured in Europe and the US through summer and autumn. The strapline for the ad is ‘Paris: One Night in Bordeaux’ and the commercial will be unveiled at the Vinexpo trade fair in June this year.

Paris herself will launch the campaign on the first day of Vinexpo (17 June), will be attended by more than 50,000 members of the international wine trade, in a hot air balloon.
A representative for Bordeaux wine trade body said that a new ad campaign is being planned for autumn, but it refused to confirm Hilton’s involvement.

Paris is not new to wine endorsement, as she has earlier been associated with Rich, a canned Prosecco, in Austria. However, it is the first time when Bordeaux is tying up with an A lister for an advertising campaign.
