Sad news for Ice Wine lovers, who will soon have to become Environmentalist!

You might be thinking what I am saying. Actually, latest reports revealed that because of Global Warming it is becoming difficult to make Eiswein (Ice Wine).

Minimum of minus seven degrees Celsius is required to make Ice wine and this year temperature is not going below fifteen degrees. This is not at all a good omen for Eiswein producers. The producers are not fully dependent on Eiswein to stay in business. You can see the example of Robert Weil where out of 600,000 bottles only 600 bottles were of Ice wine.

Ice wine harvest worldwide is under serious threat. Ernst Buscher of the German Wine Institute said that it do not get cold enough as a result the production of Eiswein seems to decrease in coming days.

Vodka can be flavored with different fruits, berries, herbs and spices. Vodka infused with rum, champagne and wine will taste what? I do not have an exact idea, but will try hit and trial method to prepare one sparkling twists.

Ingredients

750 ml jar of vodka
Fruits, spices, herbs and berries
Airtight jar cleaned and dried.

Steps to make vodka twists

1. Choose a flavor: Decide how you would like your vodka to taste and accordingly get some fruits, berries, spices and herbs.

• If using fruits use 1-3 medium sized of them
• If you prefer herbs , use 2-4 fists of them
• If infusing berries, use 2-4 fists of them. You could squish or bruise them
• If using peppers use as many as you desire, more of it will make your Vodka spicier.

2. Preparation: Wash and slice fruits, this will help to imbibe more of vodka in them. Do not slice
Berries
Place all your ingredients in an air tight container.
3.Infuse: Seal your ingredients in a jar and keep it in a cool, dark and dry place.

4. Wait for a week or two: Time is not specific, but at least wait for 5 days for the vodka to infuse.
Try to imbibe your fruits, spices, herbs and berries for more time.

Note: With your experience and experiments, the drink will improve its taste.

Tips:

• Start with cheap vodka; you’ll probably make mistakes in the beginning.
• Experiment with a wide range of fruits, berries, spices and herbs.
• If your infusion is too strong dilute it with more vodka and allow it to infuse a little longer.
• Try it with cinnamon sticks and homemade ginger beer in summers.
• Add sugar to enhance the infusion process, you can use Cachaca (rum made from pressed sugar cane).

Some suggested flavors

Orange slices and melon cubes
Cinnamon sticks
Vanilla pod
Red Currant
Lemon slices peeled
Coffee beans
Cranberries mashed

Warnings:
• Avoid chutney, kiwi and apples in your infusion ingredient.
• Berries may change color.

No doubt, Red Bull and other such energy drinks are tasty, however, beware, don’t mix them with alcoholic beverages as they lead to nervous impairment. Most of the restaurants and bars use energy drinks to add flavor and bubbly looks to the beverages served but I wonder how many of you gobbling it know the risks involved.

Energy drinks can act as stimulants for few seconds. They are generally rich in caffeine, taurine (an amino acid, building blocks of proteins) along with glucuronolactone and a carbohydrate. Energy drinks such as black bull, coca cola are mistaken to be energy boosting sports drinks by youngsters. Studies have found that the students feel a perception of reduced headache, reduce tension, and reduce pain and stress. Most of you might drink these just to have fun and to hydrate your body; however, the fact is that they dehydrate.

The main problem is faced when these energy drinks are mixed with alcohol or when consumed a lot. These have an ill effect on the health, which may include the main problems related respiration, which may be due to electrolyte reaction or you may have nausea and vomiting, paired with heart-irregularities (such as heart strokes, higher blood pressure and clogging of blood in blood vessels).

When consumed lot, the intake results in poor sightedness, leading to more accidents and molestation. They are becoming more popular in dance parties, nightclubs and bars.

Because of the ill effects, some of these drinks have been marked under the Natural Health product (NHP). Regulations are based on the ingredients (such as vitamins and caffeine) of the drink. Under these regulations, the product has to undergo a review and satisfy the quality and safety measures. Presently, only the Red Bull Energy drink is authorized for sale as natural health product and bears a natural health product number (NPN).

According to Radden, health based authorities, proved Red Bull drink as safe for drinking not favoring mixing of it with alcohol in different parts of the world.

How can you minimize risks?

• Red Bull as an energy drink is considered a health drink and can be used according to the labeling instructions.
• Do not drink excessive Red Bull Drink.
• Do not mix it with alcohol.

After some reports on adverse effects of Red Bull drink, the drink is banned in France and Denmark while the Swedish National Food Administration advised consumers not to mix it with alcohol or consume it as a sports energy drink.

Would you like to buy diamonds and that to 49 diamonds? And you can get it along with wine. Don’t be shocked! I am talking about a bottle of wine decorated with diamonds.

This sparkling bottle of wine will be auctioned next month for charity. This diamond-studded bottle of Kattus Hochriegel is worth €10,000 (US$13,200).

It will be auctioned on January 22. The Austrian company produced this sparkling wine and the credit for the innovation of this idea goes to Maria, wife of Ernst Polsterer-Kattus, who runs the company with his wife.

So don’t miss the chance.
